Environmental Responsibility

Universal Coating takes its responsibility to the environment very seriously. Our concern for the environment is central to all of our business activities - from packaging to processing. For example:

  • Since 1999, the Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership has recognized us for our voluntary pollution prevention commitment.
  • All of the paperboard packaging that arrives at our facility is either re-used or collected, baled and shipped out to a recycling facility.
  • Process water is passed through a high-volume, state-of-the-art, automatic treatment system before discharge into the sewer lines. The discharge is in full compliance with all state and federal guidelines.
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) are present in some of the coatings we apply. These are captured during the coating process and treated by a catalytic oxidizer before release into the atmosphere, again in full compliance with state and federal guidelines.

Going Forward

Powder coatings have minimal environmental impact. These earth-friendly compounds will eventually replace wet paints as the coating of choice for many applications. Universal Coating supports their use and always considers them first when researching coatings for new applications.
